Camacho's Yellowstone Trip

John hatched the idea for this trip the first year he had his Goldwing while we where in Zion National Park, June 2007, but that’s another set of bikes and another story...
So here we go! After much preparation our son Joe mounted up on Dad’s Wing & we took off, Mom fell behind with her ST1300. At long last we were away with our trusty GPS & the usual back-up maps, welcome to our Yellowstone Trip! We left Manteca on Thursday May 22. Our long awaited trip started off as a blustery day, wind speed was a constant 35 + mph. First stop Brooking, OR to see friends.

Brookings, OR.
After we were well rested & fed we took leave & bid our good friends in Oregon goodbye. Up Hwy 101 along the coast we went, in the rain, and stayed that night in the small mountain town of Sisters OR.
We stayed at the Best Western in town & they had Lamas.

Oregon gave way to Boise, ID where we spent our 23rd anniversary: May 25th.
May 26TH, we arrived in the rain at West Yellowstone, MT., all in all none the worse for wear, despite the rain and snow falling at 7,000 feet. The town boasts an elevation of 6,666 feet and a population of just over 1,000. On that particular afternoon we seemed to be the only ones on the road, we found snow piled up in the parking lots but were happy to finally be in the sleepy little town that would become our base camp for the next two weeks.
The West Gate to Yellowstone National Park is closed to everything but foot traffic in the winter, and the town was just coming out of hibernation, (Yellowstone entrance is open to all traffic in early May). We found the town and surrounding areas to be both charming and enjoyable.
“Our property borders the (Gallatin) National Forest, so everything behind us had gorgeous views.”

While at Yellowstone National Park we shared the road ways…

John & Joe got up close to the Bison.
The Stars of the park is the great animals.
We saw this Elk fawn being born…
John’s Bear shot!
We can’t forget the Ranger’s round up; giving way to more animals on the road.

The Bulls dwarfed the Goldwing & ST1300.
This is a bison family. This is a Mama, a yearling & a baby & our bikes.

We played in the snow…

Checked out the frozen Lake…

Then John & Edie went up north to the Roosevelt Arch & took photos of the flora & fauna…

John just kick’n it

The park has so may cool things.

The full upper loop was only open for three days before snow closed it, we were lucky to see the area. Elevation 11,358’

The ride had to have a stop at Old faithful.
A boiling pot around the Old Faithful area.
The time passed all too quickly and on our last day we visited the Falls.

We took Spot with us & it did a great job!
This was our trip back to California.

The weather was ever present on our way home, we went south via the Teton National Park…it rained and rained. We never saw the tops of the mountains.

more places we went…
